MVI Office for AndroidWhen Microsoft delivered it's Office suite of productivity apps to Android tablets earlier this year, they promised apps for phones were on their way.

This week, the software giant made good on it's promise, releasing preview versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to beta testers in the Microsoft Office for Android community.

If you'd like to snag a preview version for yourself,

  • Head over to the Google+ Communities page and join the group.
  • Once registered, sign up to be a beta tester for all three apps.
  • When Google grants the necessary permissions (typically 4 hours or less) you'll be able to download the previews.

For those keeping track, this just about finished Microsoft's cross-platform quest for Office. Already available on OS X, iPhones and iPads, and Android tablets, adding the app for Android phones pretty much ensures Office is available wherever people work. Users will be able to create, open, edit and save files in the cloud anywhere and anytime they need them.

A full release is expected later this year.
